Life has been getting out of control in my Muddled Up Household of late.
I have for months (if not years) hoped for more order and routine in my home. Trying to juggle motherhood with full time work and running a household is tricky business. It’s about to get a heck of a lot more difficult as I embark on a journey of sole parenting.
In case you missed it last week I am in the process of separating from my husband. Coupled with the fact that I have grown a little lazy over the years, household chores have been slackened and Mr T morphed into chief cook and washing putter outer.
I’ve had the luxury of a cleaner coming in once a fortnight for over a year now. It’s been an investment in enjoying time with my family, but I am finding that I still end up doing weekly cleaning anyway as a two week gap is way too long to go on most day-to-day cleaning tasks. About the only thing I get away with not doing more frequently and can stretch out to once every two weeks when the cleaners do it, is vacuuming (we only have carpet in our bedrooms).
Little T is also coming into an age where he likes to help me and I want to start to teach him some good habits that will put him in good stead for years to come.
I am a terrible planner. Organizing meals and time to keep on top of things is not a strong point of mine. I also need to get better at ensuring I have time to prepare healthy dinners for my little man.
Washing normally gets done on one or two days a week and it’s usually a mad rush to try and get 5 loads plus done in one day (mind you my separation will cut washing in half I am predicting as Mr T went through more clothes in a week that I do in two!).
I recently expressed my frustration at the lack of order and routine in my life and home with friend and fellow blogger, Laney from Crash Test Mummy. Laney suggested we try a challenge to whip us both into shape (any maybe a few of our readers too!).
Introducing the Challenge – Crash Test Mummies vs Muddled Up Mummies
Laney and I have each chosen to follow an expert as we embark on our home organization challenge.
More importantly, we are asking you to help make this a better road test and more interesting by joining in.
For this challenge, I have enlisted the help of another blogging friends Katrina from The Organised Housewife.
Laney has chosen the Fly Lady because she has had success with it before wants to get back into it again.

Who’s joining me?
I'm looking for two other mummies to be on my team to crash test the principals of The Organised Housewife.
To apply please leave a comment below and tell me why you need help. I'll pick two based on those I can most relate to and who I think will benefit well from the challenge. You'll need to write a short update each week on your progress that will be published as part of my update on the Challenge.
Laney and I will be choosing our teams this weekend so make sure you apply before then. If you're selected I'll contact you and ask you to send me a photo for our team profile.

How it will work
Over 3 weeks, together we'll try some routines with kids, follow a cleaning checklist, menu plan, keep a to-do-list and de-clutter various zones in our homes.
The challenge will start next Monday with Laney and I introducing our teams and giving you your tasks! If your not selected in my road testing team, I'd still love it if you join in and read all about your test results in the comments!
Make sure you pop over to Crash Test Mummy to follow Laney’s progress and hear what parts of keeping organized at home she is battling.
I'd love to hear if you're up for the challenge and/or any ideas you might have to help keep me on track.
