Just quietly I am a tad excited.
Next month is Mother’s Day and it will be my first as a Mum.
Not only that but as a daughter with a new-found admiration for her own mother and all the mums out there, whose job I underestimated for so long.
When I was little, I remember each year our primary school had a Mother’s Day fundraiser and my mum soon gathered quite a collection of pot pouri bags, plastic red roses and tissue box covers.
Since then, Mum insisted all she wanted each Mother’s Day was breakfast in bed and a kiss and cuddle. Of course my bother and I have to rack our brains every year to find her something that she won’t be upset by (thinking we have spent too much money), but will show we have put a little more thought into it than grabbing a bunch of flowers on the way from the local petrol station.
After becoming a mother myself, I have become more sensitive and aware of the plights of other mothers who are doing it way tougher than I can imagine, so when Bec Neilson reached out to me about the Child’s i Foundation and I started reading her blog and about the work being done in Uganda to help vulnerable mothers and families, I stopped and wanted to find out more.
This Mother’s Day, stop and think about the gift you are going to purchase or (request).
Consider something different. A chance to give back to those who can’t help themselves.
Child’s i Foundation are hosting a Mother's Day Baby Shower and with any gift you purchase, they will send a handwritten card featuring one of their beautiful babies to your loved one, letting them know what you purchased for them.
For example, my Mum’s gift will provide a week’s Cows milk and clean water for Children arriving at their centre (don’t tell her this is what I have bought!).

If nothing else, please consider this as an option.
Take at look at the website, follow them on Twitter or Facebook or email Bec (bec@childsifoundation.org) if you have any questions or want more information.
I hope to write more about my first “real” Mother’s Day experience as the day gets closer and would love to here what you are planning for Mother's Day.

This will be my first mother's day too. every year on this day, a bunch of friends and I get together to remember a mom of one of our friend who died of breast cancer. We usually wear pink and have a picnic by the river. Hopefully this year I will make my own tradition with the Lil' Tiger.
ReplyDeleteOh Jodie, this is so exciting! And more importantly, I love how you're thinking of others during this year of your special 'firsts'. Thank you for remembering others who aren't as fortunate as us. xx
ReplyDeleteI saw this on another blog and I'm thinking this is what I'll get my Mum for Mother's day as well :)
ReplyDeleteThe only thing is, it's in pounds... does that matter?? (Total novice here ;)
At the moment the British Pound is about $1.55 Aussie dollars. So if you were to buy a gift at $10 pounds you're looking at roughly $15.... don't let the conversion put you off :)
ReplyDeleteAHHH gotcha :) Might even convince Hubby to get a little 'gift' for his Mum from here too :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Wow, this is a great idea, will definitely be requesting this! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea, I think it's perfect choice for Mother's Day! And congrats on celebrating your first one as a Mum!
ReplyDeleteHop'pin by from 'FlogYoBlog Friday'. I'm following your blog now, wont you please come and follow me back?? ~KM

This is such a brilliant idea :)
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely an exciting time for you...I remember quite clearer how proud I was when I held my son on my First Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea Jodie. Good for you! No slippers and chocolates for you on your first Mother's Day? I am running in the Mother's Day Classic and fundraising for breast cancer research - that will be my gift to other women on Mother's Day x
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful mothers day present idea. We have given oxfam chickens and goats before as Christmas presents but this is a lovely idea from one mother to another.
